In 2016 GenPrime, leading provider of portable microbial analysis systems, contacted LK Studios to assist in the design of their products. Many concepts have come through this partnership which have lead to a number of product solutions.
GenPrime Reader Enclosure
We were given the challenge of taking the current off-the-shelf reader housing that was used by GenPrime for their proprietary technology and designing an enclosure around this housing to make it more appealing, easier to use, and iconic.
The biggest design hurdle was not growing the size of the enclosure too far beyond its original format. Another aspect was making all the ports accessible along with the locking switch for transportation purposes. The last element was incorporating an easy and functionally simple sliding tray that can accommodate the various test cell sizes.
By growing the walls vertically to keep the increased size to minimum, pushing in the surface on both ends to create carry handles, and sculpting a wave-like surface to access the lock switch on the back of the unit and mirroring the detail on the front for aesthetics, the enclosure only slightly increased the footprint of the reader while creating an iconic look.

GenPrime Vertical Analyzer
The Vertical Analyzer was a full team project that included the efforts of 4 different companies to finish. GenPrime was the lead, Infinetix managed the electronics, Coeur Design LLC pushed the mechanical engineering and LK Studios headed up the industrial design, branding, and color guide.
As with most all projects, creating a cost effective design that still pushed clean and innovative design was the goal. Another item to work around was an easy assembly and quick access to the internals for any maintenance needed. Lastly, the operation, from the drawer to the notification light, of the analyzer had to be simple and intuitive.
With its gloss white formed aluminum 2 piece body and trim screw covers to the injection molded caps and drawer system, the design of the GenPrime Vertical Analyzer addresses all the details listed. We utilized a simple color coded LED notification light and a spring controlled push-button drawer system to finish off the analyzer.
